L'Accademia del Dissonanti

A distinguishing characteristic of the music of the 17th and 18th centuries, which we now call baroque, is the quest for everything which provokes tension, emotion, feeling. Thus, dissonance - that collection of sounds which does not correspond to the academic definition of "propriety and the purity of taste" - became an essential element of musical language and an expressive instrument for the composers of the time.

Borrowing its name from a musical academy founded in Modena at the end of the 17th century, the Accademia dei Dissonanti was established in 2010 by a group of musicians of very different origins who share a common fascination for the modern character of some baroque music. The dissonanti come from the most brilliant European orchestras (les Arts Florissants, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Freiburger Barockorchester...), and will share with you their attraction to those extraordinary chords which, from Frescobaldi to Bach, from Marin Marais to Vivaldi, shock the ear in order to better seduce it...
